Heartbeat

Heartbeat: filming at Aidensfield Stores

In November 1991, Yorkshire TV's white trucks rolled into the village, and filming began on what we now
know as Heartbeat, and the village was called Aidensfield for the first time. Episode 1 was shown on
British TV on 10th April 1992, and in 2010, more than 350 episodes later, the programme still attracts a
very large audience world wide. Because the programme is so popular, we now stock a large range of
Heartbeat souvenirs, some of which you can see on our Heartbeat gifts page.

Heartbeat is based on the Constable stories, a series of books written by Nicholas Rhea. You can
read more about the author here.

The entire first series of Heartbeat is released on DVD for the first time 27th Sept 2010

A lot of the filming takes place right in front of the shop. These are some
of the photos we have taken during filming.

When Heartbeat need to use the inside of the shop for filming, it can take up to a day and a half to set up. YTV bring their own counters, scales, tills, and of course the 1960s groceries. The filming can take up to for hours, but the scene may only last about a minute on TV. This scene was shot in November 2007

During the 10 years or so that Bill Maynard played the character of Claude Greengrass, we got to know him quite well. He is diabetic, and as we sell diabetic ice cream, he was a regular customer, and always happy to sign autographs. He still pops in to sign posters for us, which we sell in the shop. This shot of Bill was taken in November 2007

CHARITY BOOK SIGNING 2009

On the 12th August, 2009, David Lonsdale and Steven Blakeley came back to the
Aidensfield Stores, to sign copies of the bookazine "Heartbeat - the story behind
the series". The book is on sale on our books page.
All the proceeds from the sale of the books were donated to the their
chosen charities.

BOOK SIGNING 2010

On the 4th August 2010, Tricia Penrose and David Lonsdale returned to Goathland to
sign copans queued for up to an hour to get their copies signed by the Heartbeat stars.
David and Tricia toies of the book 'Heartbeat- the story behind the series', written by Nicholas Rhea.
Heartbeat fok time to chat to everyone, and the most popular question asked was
whether there would be anymore filming of Heartbeat, to which both replied that it would
be highly unlikely. They stayed for about 2 1/2 hours, but unfortunately they didn't have
enough time to sign all our books but they will do them in the next few weeks, after
which they will be available to buy only in the Aidensfield Stores.

60's CAR WEEKEND JUNE 2011

A reunion was held on the weekend of the 11th/12th June 2011 of a number of vehicles which appeared in Heartbeat. Also making an appearance on the Saturday was David Lonsdale who posed for photos around the vehicles and then, at the Aidensfield Stores, signed copies of a Charity Calendar.

The Calendar was produced with the help of Keith Simmonds of Glendale House, Goathland and Alan Coleman owner of the Police mini van, in order to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance and the National Kidney Federation.

The Calendars raised £500 and this was matched by a donation from Gary  Middleton and Phil Hopkinson using money from the charity box attached to their Ford Anglia. Despite the rain on Sunday, the owners of the vehicles, who kindly gave their time, thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and it is hoped that a similar event will take place next year.

There are still a few 2012 calendars left which have been signed by David Lonsdale. These are priced at £6-00 and will be sold on a first come first served basis.
